We’re so excited to gather with you around the mahjong table for Open / Guided Play — a laid back, fun, and energizing evening designed for players who already know the basics and want more opportunities to play in a welcoming, social setting.

Please note: This is not a lesson. You should already know how to play mahjong to attend.

A note for seasoned players

If you’re a more experienced player who enjoys a quicker or slightly more competitive pace, you’re very welcome to attend. We’ll have designated tables for seasoned players so you can jump right into faster-moving games.

Our Founder Emily, a certified mahjong instructor, will be present throughout the evening to help guide play if anyone at your table has questions about a rule or needs a quick refresher. While this is not a teaching class, you’ll have supportive guidance available so everyone can enjoy the flow of the game.

Whether you come with friends or arrive solo, we’ll make sure you have a welcoming seat at the table. Many guests attend open play on their own, and this is a great way to connect with other women in The Flourish Fam!

Flourish Coworking (conveniently attached to the shop)

5:45–6:00pm // Arrival + welcome drinks
6:00–8:00pm // Open / guided mahjong play

Please plan to arrive a few minutes early so we can seat everyone and begin play together at 6:00pm.

What to bring

We recommend bringing your 2026 card if you have already received it, as well as your 2025 card as a backup. Each year, shipments of the new cards can arrive at different times, and we know many players are still waiting on their 2026 card — so having your 2025 card with you ensures you’ll be ready to play with those at your table no matter what.  (Note: we pre-ordered 2026 cards to have on hand if someone at your table hadsn't yet received theirs, and are hoping ours come in soon!)

You’re also welcome to bring your own drinks and light bites to enjoy during the evening if you’d like.

We’ll provide everything else you need for a comfortable evening at the table:

• Beautiful mahjong tiles
• Table mat
• Racks + pushers
• Table lamp (bring your readers if you use them!)
• Shufflers
• Line finder tools
• A signature spritz (with a mocktail option available)

Just come ready to play — we’ll handle the rest.

During Open / Guided Play you’ll:

• Enjoy multiple rounds of mahjong with fellow players
• Play using the National Mahjong League card
• Have a certified instructor nearby to answer questions or clarify rules if needed
• Connect with other mahjong lovers in a relaxed, welcoming environment

And because we love a little extra fun, we’ll also have a few special giveaways throughout the evening.

Refund Policy

Because each table is carefully arranged for the best playing experience, refunds are not available for this event. If a true emergency prevents you from attending, please reach out — we’ll provide a gift card that you can apply toward a future Open / Guided Play.

We kindly ask that you make every effort to attend as planned. Mahjong is played with four people at each table, and every seat plays an important role in creating a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone.
